The District has reasonably good spread of health services. It has 2 primary health blocks, 11 primary health centres and 3 community health centres besides 26 sub-health centres of which 26 are in the rural areas and 3 in the urban areas. The district has 72 sub-centres, 1 police dispensary, 2 rural hospitals, 4 civil hospitals, 1 civil dispensary, 1 P.P.unit and 3 urban slum area dispensaries. The Office of the Civil Surgeon does the following jobs:

• Medical examination on entry in the Government job. A medical fitness certificate is issued in this regard.
• The certificate regarding the handicapped persons are made on every Thursday.
• Under the family planning programme, operations for vasectomy and tubectomy are done. In order to maintain a difference of 3 years in the birth of two children, contraceptive pills, condoms and copper T is provided free of cost in all civil hospitals.
• Pregnant ladies are provided free iron and folic acid tablets as also the inoculations for healthy babies.
• Ante- natal and post natal care of the new born child, the importance of breast feeding, protection from 6 killer diseases vitamins drops etc. are also provided free of cost.

There are a total of 581 drug distribution centers under the malaria control programme. Chloroquinn tablets are provided and oil is sprayed over decaying and stagnant water

The licenses to open chemist shops are issued by the pharmacy council but if anyone wants to enter into partnership or wants to keep someone on wage for the above said purpose, the permission has to be sought from the office of the Civil Surgeon.

Under the school health programme, all school children are medically examined twice in an year and if need be referred to the nearby hospital. The Dental check up of the school children is also done.

The Civil Hospital also houses a blood bank .

The Civil Surgeon is also the District Registrar of birth and death and accordingly maintains the record of all the births and deaths taking place in the district.

The district has regular blood donors and their blood groups as well as their contact numbers are given so that they may be personally contacted in case of emergency.

• The trust started a degree college for girls with affifliation to Punjabi University, Patiala from July, 2005. At present, they have B.A.I. class with 55 girl students.

Brief accounts of industries in each of the four Sub divisions of the District have been given in the section dealing with the sub divisions.

In order to further elaborate the industrial scene in the District, it is stated that there are 4001 registered units in the small scale sector in the District. These units manufacture various products like rerolled steel, steel ingots, C.I. castings, refractory items, rubber machinery and sewing machine parts. Centrifugal/ submersible pumps, rolling mills machinery and parts and Truck/bus body building and rice Shellers also form part of the small scale industrial family of District Fatehgarh Sahib. These units have plant and machinery worth Rs 22,320 lacs and employ over 20,000 workers.
